Coronary CT Angiography
West Michigan Cardiology partners with East Beltline Imaging to offer on site cardiovascular CT imaging. East Beltline Imaging is located inside of West Michigan Cardiology’s Grand Rapids location and offers the areas only office based high resolution coronary CT angiography and calcium score imaging.
Coronary CT angiography (CTA) is a less invasive / less risky way to test for the presence AND severity of coronary atherosclerotic disease when compared to coronary angiography. During a Coronary CTA a small IV is placed in the patients arm and the patient is hooked up to EKG monitoring. A small amount of contrast dye is injected into the patients vein and a CT scan of the heart, lungs, and arteries within the chest is obtained. The test takes approximately 15 minutes and creates a three dimensional image of your heart, lungs, arteries in the chest, and the coronary arteries that supply blood to the heart muscle. This imaging allows your physician to assess the all of the vital organs within the chest as well as to assess for the presence of coronary atherosclerosis as well as the degree of blockage within the coronary arteries.
Who should get a coronary CT angiogram?
Your cardiologist will determine if you are a candidate for coronary CT angiogram after a thorough consultation.
